We definitely try to limit our child's "media consumption" but it is difficult in this age, especially when all her friends seem to have unfettered access to it. Its also difficult because my wife and I are both heavy media/computer users. And yes, I have already started attempts at teaching our five year old to write code. Like the article summarizes, we don't believe all media is bad and try to set reasonable daily portions for all of us.

Broadcast TV seems to want to follow the music industry down the sordid contentious path of fighting and screwing their customers. The music industry yielded to technology and so will broadcasters. Yes, customers may want free but if you make it convenient enough for them, they will pay .. A little. Better to embrace the ways in which they want to consume your media rather than force them into walled garden like cattle. Until then torrents, TiVo, and Netflix will fill the gap.
